* Gx Series - GxA4 amp/dsp module ............... (October 29th 2008)
Our first ever powered box is moving towards prototyping stage.
The G218 is being built as a dual mode box in other words, you'll be able to retro-fit the GxA4 amplifier/dsp module at any time
in the future.
The GxA4 module will power the G218 and either a Shermann G4, G5 or RS5.
We could also spec' it to drive the older CA3 & CA6 boxes .
See more of the G218 & G218P here
* G5 prototype complete ............... (October 27th 2008)
The first G5 prototype box has been finished.
We've already decided on which 2" horn and drive unit will be used so the next step is to decide which
will be the best 15" for purpose within the G5.
We'll keep you posted on the progress of this eagerly awaited model.
* G5 takes shape ............... (October 20th 2008)
Another model in the new Gx Series is becoming a reality.
As time permits work is being completed on the design of this new model however, a mocked-up prototype
has already been proving the drive units.
Initial results have been astounding but the real work of cramming this new technology in to an enclosure
only marginally larger than the MRL601 has only just begun.
More G5 news soon.
* TPC touch-up kit ............... (October 6th 2008)
Coming soon, a re-useable touch-up kit for our heavy duty TPC finish.
A small twin tube kit, the GS-TR1, will be an inexpensive way to deal with any minor damage to a TPC finished
Shermann box.
* GemsNFX take new LM401 ............... (October 6th 2008)
Surrey based GemsNFX have taken delivery of a number of the LM401 three way dedicated stage wedge.
Graham Nelson auditioned the new Shermann model recently and noting that despite being a low-profile wedge the cabinet
was fully equipped with a 35mm stand mount and flying track.
This was exactly the style of cabinet he was looking for and in addition, it sounded as good as it looked in its heavy duty
black TPC finish.
For more information on this compact power house wedge see the LM401 feature page - here.
* Three more Gx models soon ............... (October 4th 2008)
The designers at Shermann have been busy working on additionals models for the Gx Series.
A full range three-way model (G5) will be completed late November and a dedicated
horn loaded
three-way mid-high box (G4) to work with either the G215 or G218 will be released in the new year.
The G4 & G5 are cost effective high output
designs featuring the latest technology in mid-high drive units and the G4 will also feature a
rotatable mid/high horn assembly.
Gx models are only sold direct from our own factory - they'll be a huge leap forward in touring technology.
See the G218 feature here. Gx Price Guide
* Stage Sound Services and the MRL401 ............... (September 25th 2008)
We forgot to mention that Cardiff based Stage Sound Services have taken delivery of a quantity of Shermann MRL401 multi-role boxes to add to their significant Shermann stockholding.
The three-way MRL401 was chosen over our two-way MRL4 by various Stage Sound staff members and owner Phil Hurley.
* Kinetic take MRL601 ............... (September 11th 2008)
Busy rental company Kinetic based in Surrey have taken MRL601 cabs to add to their stock of MRL401 models.
Kinetic are also a large RS5/R118B stockholder along with MRL3 and R2M.
* SoundBite double-up on R2M ............... (September 5th 2008)
Winchester based SoundBite have added further sets of Shermann R2M cabs to their stock.
SoundBite recently purchased MRL401 but with the award of a large contract for 2008/9 the company decided to also increase it's small box stockholding.
* Water-based paint option ............... (August 21st 2008)
Our standard finish for installation boxes is known as TRC and we've now bowed to popular pressure to also include this option for Rental Companies.
TRC is available as a touch-up kit from ourselves at a very sensible price and careful application can recreate the textured finish we obtain from new for this product should repair become necessary.
Click here for the latest Rental Company prices.
* MRL401 at Leading Edge ............... (August 13th 2008)
Six MRL401 along with six R118B and four R2M are currently providing incredible FOH sound at Leading Edge, again held at The Warwick School close to the centre of Warwick.
The 900 capacity school hall is the focal point of this week long event organised by the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the amazing quality of the Shermann MRL401 system has been a talking point.
On stage, Winchester based SoundBite Productions have provided Shermann MRL4 and MRL3 enclosures.
* LM401 data sheet ............... (August 1st 2008)
Click here for the new LM401 data sheet.
* LM401 introduced ............... (July 22nd 2008) We've introduced the LM401 in to our catalogue of products. Using identical components to the MRL401 the LM version is a dedicated low-profile wedge monitor with a twist as the LM401 is equipped with flying track and a 35mm stand mount. As you'd expect, it's a great sounding box with the versatility and long working life you'd expect from any Shermann system. Demo sets are with clients right now - call us for your audition. See the LM401 feature page here.
* RS5 / R118B rental system ............... (July 13th 2008) The Shermann RS5 rental system was out in Essex last weekend at a large youth festival. Customer was Concert Services Ltd, a Rayleigh based Shermann user whilst the festival called SOLID was organised by the Viz-A-Viz organisation. Initially installed in a marquee the system was taken outside for events on Saturday then returned indoors for the final Sunday morning session.
Driven by FFA amplification and an Ashly 3:24CL crossover the system performed faultlessly and also covered a very large area outside the marquee during Saturday's sessions.
* RS5 yoke bracket in use ............... (July 5th 2008) The new Shermann RS5 is now successfully in use and with the option of utilising the new yoke style stand/flying bracket.
Click on the current (PDF) newsletter to see a rather dark picture of the new bracket which may be fitted to our rental system RS5 boxes.
We'll update the RS5 feature page with more elaborate details as soon as possible.
* RS2 introduced ............... (June 21st 2008)
The RS2 has been introduced to the R Series. This lightweight 3 way cabinet is a powerful yet ultra-compact model designed to be used in pairs for very high quality speech dutiues.
Add a pair of Shermann GL3B models and you have a small band system capable of covering moderately sized audiences with ease. The RS2 is a stunning performer and at present is possibly the only 3 way 10" box on the market.
It's equipped as standard with two point flying track and a 35mm stand mount.
See the RS2 feature page here.
* RS5 yoke bracket is here ............... (June 19th 2008) The RS5 yoke bracket has arrived at Shermann's HQ and we'll have pictures on the RS5 feature page very soon. Attached to the cabinet by easily removed M12 handles the bracket serves stand mount and flying functions with just the quick change of the stand mount fitting to the supplied half-coupler.
See the RS5 feature page towards the end of June.
* New fitting for RS5............... (June 10th 2008) A new stand mount / flying bracket will be available for the RS5 by the end of June. With a number of customer using just one bass cab with the RS5 on smaller gigs we've developed a nutplate fitting to match with a new bracket - the whole assembly working in a similar fashion to the R2M/R8M bracket. The price now shown for the RS5 in the June 2008 price guide reflects the RS5 with no flying fittings supplied however, the new nutplate is so compact that the new RS5 is offered with both the MAN and nutplate fittings if necessary.
Check the RS5 feature page later this month for more information.
* Shermann R118C............... (May 19th 2008) Seems we forgot to mention that the Shermann R118C has been reintroduced. Built to match the RS5 in every physical dimension the R118C is now equipped with a superb 1kw 18" neo driver. Available with or without flying gear this box offers remarkable VLF performance for concerts and presentation events from a truly compact package. R118C feature page
* LM3 & LM4 feature pages on line .......... (May 18th 2008)
See the new feature pages on the LM3 here and the LM4 here.
* LM3 & LM4 in stock ............... (May 15th 2008) Our new low-profile two way passive wedges have joined our stock of demo gear.
The smallest, the LM3, features a neo 10" and a 1" compression driver whilst the slightly larger LM4 sports a mighty 12" neo driver and a 2" compression driver. Designed to be heard but not seen our Shermann LM models really do place foldback energy exactly where it's required.
Call for a demo!
* New RS5 released ............... (May 1st 2008) As you may have seen on our homepage, the new RS5 has been released and is now available - well almost.
We've been caught out somewhat with orders for the new RS5 and at this very moment we won't have any cabs available for demo until (hopefully) mid-May.
The keen-eyed amongst you will note the minimal of changes however, some production changes have involved the manufacture of new templates.
Please call 0845 644 2209 if you require further information or visit the RS5 feature page.
* Driving the system ............... (April 28th 2008)
Our thanks go to Dave Millard at Full Fat Audio for sending down two superb lightweight amplifiers for us to try.
On Sunday at the NADJ convention we drove the R118B and MRL401 with the FFA6000 and FFA2000 (amplifiers) respectively controlled by an Ashly Protea 3:24CL digital crossover.
The sound quality was simply astonishing in every respect. FFA - British built, lightweight and soon to be available from ourselves.
Info on the Shermann Sales here.
* Shermann at NADJ convention 2 ............... (April 28th 2008)
Ok - we survived. Surrounded entirely by Chinese built equipment we had no difficulty in sending all competition to the wall .... and that's wasn't just my opinion either.
Once again - Shermann's high powered hi-fi ruled the day.
* Shermann at NADJ convention 1 ............... (April 26th 2008)
We have a stand at the NADJ convention held once again at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham Airport. Running from 12noon until late on Sunday April 27th the convention and exhibition accomodate three halls and we'll be there with some new and interesting goodies to show the assembled throng.
* GL301 to be launched during May ........(April 21st 2008).
Our first 3 way loudspeaker sporting a 5 " midrange will be launched during May.
The GL301 will be the first 3 way 10" cabinet introduced to the Shermann product range for almost 15 years.
Whilst the idea of a super-compact 10" box has been rumbling for several years finding appropriate drivers has been a real headache but the new lightweight GL301 (and soon the MRL301) brings the benefits of sensibly priced three way cabinets to a far wider audience.
The GL301 cabinet is identical in size to the MRL3 but features a lightweight 5" midrange in its construction.
Call 0845 644 2209 for more info' or a demo - A GL301 feature page will be on-site soon.
* New LM models ........(March 28th 2008).
We're introducing three new models of low profile wedge monitors based on the MRL3, MRL4 and MRL5. They'll be known as the LM3 (10" + 1"), LM4 (12" + 2") and LM5 (15" + 2").
With a steep 35° wedge angle for close to the artist applications these new models are also fitted with a 35mm stand mount to increase each cabinet's versatility. They're also equipped with two dual NL4 input plates, available as matched L/R pairs and supplied as standard in our black TPC finish - colours to order.
The new models are on the price list and will be available from May 1st 2008.
* More RS5 info' ........(March 16th 2008).
We're planning the launch of the new RS5 on May 1st and to add a little spice to the new model there will be a very special offer available during May, June and July.
Still considered by many to be the best small to medium scale touring box for the UK the RS5v2 will continue to fly the flag for Shermann on numerous tours along with premium gigs and events.
* New RS5 under construction ........(March 11th 2008).
The new RS5 is now under construction and the good news is that there will only be one component change - the 12" low-mid driver.
There will be no changes to the external size or shape whilst the mid/hi pod will be as before.
Standard finish will of course be in TPC for touring versions or TRC for installation versions.
* New versions ready to demo ........(Jan' 26th 2008).
We have several new or uprated products in our demo stock right now ready to show you. The MRL3, MRL4, MRL401, R118B and R3B are ready to rock along with the extremely popular R2M and R8M - all in TPC finish. Call us for a demo and we'll make some arrangements.
News 2008 starts here.
* Carpet covered boxes - no more ........ (Nov' 5th 2007).
Carpet covering of new Shermann cabs in all product groups is history.
Our new spray plant is installed with all in-house and subcontract produced cabinets now receiving our new durable TRC finish.
For heavy duty touring use we would still recommend our TPC finished products some of which are kept in stock for immediate shipping.
Carpeted models will be available to special order for installation customers where for example, a pair of LF drive cabs or additional wedges will be added to an
existing rig of carpet covered Shermann boxes.
We'll do our best to accomodate all requirements
including the refurbishement of older models in a carpeted finish as long as our carpet stocks last.
* New RS5 for winter launch ........ (Oct' 15th 2007).
Following the deletion of the RS5's 12" low mid driver from the Fane catalogue some months ago we've taken the decision to introduce the RS5v2.
The new model will retain the all-important
Shermann mid/high module from the six year old RS5 with just a few subtle improvements although the cabinet will loose it's virtually rectangular shape to be replaced by a more compact external styling.
The lower cost RS5v2 will also be lighter then the original and plans are in hand to introduce a powered version with on-board dsp and comms sometime in the new year.
As the design progresses we'll keep you posted.
* Carpet covering to be phased out........ (Oct' 2007).
Over the next few months we plan to phase-out carpet covered models.
We've forward purchased a large stock of carpet to allow refurbishment or the future matching of customers' existing Shermann stock.
If you have any questions about the change please call.
* New bracket options for installation........ (Sept' 2007).
We've developed an optional hard fix bracket for installation models.
Whilst our GS-F2/W2 and GS-F3/W3 brackets are still in demand many installers have told us they don't require the additional flexibility of this style of bracket and that a permanently attached bracket is generally acceptable.
We'll post some pictures soon of the new brackets in use.
Prices will vary according to the particular application and cabinet size therefore, feel free to call if you require further information.
* Stunning live results from new bass cabs........ (Sept' 2007).
Shermann's new R3B (1 x 15") and the uprated R118B (1 x 18") have recently been turning heads (and ears).
The drive units fitted to these superb Shermann cabs share the same 4" voice coil, dual suspension, 1kw motor assemblies which drive heavy duty ribbed cones.
The R3B is already available in our new TPC finish whilst the R118Bv2 will be available in TPC finish from October.
* TPC finished cabs now in stock........ (Sept' 2007).
We now have Shermann R2M, R8M and R3B ready for shipping in our new super-tough Textured Protective Coating.
Although not planned, we recently witnessed the durability of the TPC finish when an R8M was involved in an accident and toppled from over 2 metres on to a concrete block.
The top rear edge of the R8M hit the concrete
at full velocity however, upon examination we discovered that the only visual sign of the fall was a small amount of concrete dust wedged in the coating - the cab worked perfectly and the concrete dust was brushed away.
* R3B added to R Series........ (Aug' 2007).
To compliment current and soon to be released R Series products we've introduced the R3B, a single 15" bass drive model.
Featuring an efficient, European built 15" LF driver the R3B will be the first Shermann bass cabinet to be finished in our new TPC finish in place of carpet.
Another first is the power handling of this new Shermann box, 1kw AES, 2kw programme.
The drive unit fitted to the R3B features a substantial cast aluminium chassis, ferrite magnet assembly, dual suspension, a 4" voice coil and a heavy ribbed cone which combine with R3Bs substantial cabinet construction to create a thunderous, accurate bass drive system.
Call us for an audition of the new R3B and other amazing products in Shermann's R Series.
* TPC coating has arrived........ (July 2007).
Initially limited to R2M, R8M, MRL3 and R3B models we plan expansion of the TPC coating to other models in the range before the end of 2007.
As an example of it's durability we've loaded our TPC finished samples on our workbenches as if they were carpeted models.
Normally when loading painted cabs we place off-cuts of carpet under the cabs to avoid scratches however, with the new TPC finish we noted that they didn't scratch even when pushed across the rather coarse surface on our benches.
Love it or hate it; black carpet has been an undeniably durable finish on Shermann boxes for the past 26 years however, you can't stop 'worthwhile' progress and Textured Protective Coating is a major example of such progress.
We'll be uploading images of the new finish currently on the R8M in the next few days.
* The DukesBox and its internal orchestra heads for Glastonbury.
Not sure where they'll be but I think it's a fair bet they won't be on the Pyramid stage - unless they get their directions wrong.
Take a look at the website and remember The DukesBox is powered by Shermann. (June 2007)
* Following a whole bunch of drive unit supply problems experienced earlier this year all of which were totally out of our control we've recently been auditioning a number of products for use as suitable replacements in existing boxes.
As a result Shermann R Series R8M, R118B, R118C and RS5 have been equipped with uprated drive units.
From Shermann's A Series we've been forced to fit new drivers in the MRL3, GL3, MRL4, GL4, MRL5, GL5, GL3B and GL5B.
Shermann's Dx Series has not been affected.
Unfortunately, the required design alterations to the above have eaten into an already busy schedule therefore the anticipated launch of a new, compact R Series concert box by the summer of 2007 has been delayed.
A number of positive factors have emerged for example, the R118B and R118C have now been equipped with a 1,000 watt rms 18" driver at the same price whilst the R8M has been similarly uprated to a 250watt rms box with a modest 2dB gain in efficiency. (June 2007)
* We've learned that the Shermann R2M, our smallest multi-role box has been used in pairs for vocal foldback on Barbara Dickson's recent UK tour.
Unlike the sight-line destroying size of competitive 'compact' wedges the 242mm apex height of the inconspicuous Shermann R2M created a virtually clear stage environment whilst at the same time offering the high quality reproduction which Ms. Dickson has always expected from her on-stage monitors.
Along with South London PA company Kintic's Shermann RS5/R118C rig additional Shermann R2M cabs were also used as front-fills on all gigs.
Also a first for this artist, Kinetic used a Yamaha digital mixer on her 2007 tour.
Even though the Shermann RS5 has become a bench mark as the superior quality, compact touring system the sound quality produced on this recent tour drew high praise for from venue staff, concert goers and Ms. Dicksons fans. (April 2007)
For technical info' on the the Shermann R-Series please go to our data sheets page.

* Midge Ure using Shermann wedges on solo tour gigs.
Shermann's R3W and MRL5 wedges are now in regular use by Midge Ure on his numerous UK solo gigs.
More info' soon.
* Improvements to Shermann GS-F2 flying and GS-W2 two point wall brackets.
We've made some modest improvements to the F2 and W2 brackets to enable easy change of the support wire in the event of damage or wear.
* New super compact bass cab' - GL3B launched - - details.....
